Confidence Through Action: Prepare, Practise and Follow Through
Personal Effectiveness & Resilience
Confidence does not require certainty. You can feel nervous and still take a useful, well-prepared step. The aim is to connect confidence with competence, feedback and action.
1. Prepare one useful next step
Replace “I need to become confident” with a specific behaviour: ask a question, make a recommendation or begin a difficult task. Identify the information, support and preparation that behaviour requires.
2. Practise with feedback
Rehearse in a manageable setting. Explain your main point to a colleague and ask what was clear and what was missing. Repeat with one adjustment. Useful feedback describes observable behaviour.
3. Follow through and review
Take the step, note what happened and decide what to change. Persistence can mean continuing, adapting, seeking help or stopping for a sound reason. It does not mean ignoring evidence.
Try this at work
Choose a low-risk action for the next seven days. Record your preparation, attempt, feedback and next adjustment. Judge progress by what you do, not only by how confident you feel.
